We are raising awareness around continence and strokes for Stroke Awareness Month.

People who have a stroke often have a problem controlling their bladder and/or bowel after it. These problems, though difficult to address initially, can be resolved in time. The reasons for developing continence problems after a stroke vary and there could be a number of explanations such as:

  • Lack of full consciousness
  • Damage to part of the brain which controls the bladder/bowel
  • Difficulty in mobility making it more difficult to reach the bathroom in time
